How To Craft AI Prompts For Newborn Photographers

Using AI can be fun. But it can also be frustrating when it doesn’t create anything like what you wanted. As a newborn photographer who is always trying to offer something more to my clients, I found out the hard way some things that can make your life easier. In this post, I want to share those things.

Midjourney offers ai prompt guidelines.

Here is what they say about how to craft a prompt:

"Subject: person, animal, character, location, object

Medium: photo, painting, illustration, sculpture, doodle, tapestry

Environment: indoors, outdoors, on the moon, underwater, in the city

Lighting: soft, ambient, overcast, neon, studio lights

Color: vibrant, muted, bright, monochromatic, colorful, black and white, pastel

Mood: sedate, calm, raucous, energetic

Composition: portrait, headshot, closeup, birds-eye view"

It is a good habit to start your prompts using some or all of these.  Let's try an example: in Midjourney you type /imagine (enter). Then the prompt field appears. This is where you type the actual prompt.

Example 1: a photo of a lush forest scene with soft golden light, calm, landscape orientation. You can see the results above.

Tip: Make use of the “no" parameter.

Midjourney does not always listen, but it is worth a shot.The first image in the gallery above shows the results. Let's say you did not want water. You could try the prompt again and  add, "no water", or take out the word "lush" and say "green" instead.

Midjourney did not listen and added water in most of the images. If this happens, focus on elements you want in your image.

Example 3: Since I did not want water, I simply told Midjourney I wanted a footpath and waterfall.

TIP: Use A Different Version of Midourney

Change the version. You do NOT always have to use the latest mid journey version. Here is an example where I used version 5.2, then tried 5.0. I found 5.0 more to my liking.

How To Create More Lens Fall Off

Midjourney is changing and improving every minute of every day. But one problem newborn photographers can have is digital backgrounds that are tack sharp all the way through. To help add more lens fall off that looks natural, you can use a prompt like this:

Of course, you have to remove the ai baby in photoshop. (if you do not want to remove it, you can buy some premade digital  backdrops

How To Create Digital Flower Walls For Dreamcatchers

 Dreamcatchers are a favorite for newborn photographers. Once you have the base image you took in studio, you can place it anywhere  you want.  Here is a prompt you can use to get started creating flower walls for:
